The Kings of Charleston (Volume 1)

The Kings of Charleston - Kat H. Clayton Describe 2 different settings or locations. House in Charleston - Beautiful wooded floors, crystal chandeliers, mahogany stair cases, luxurious velvet drapes, lots of antiques.

Bathroom - Where Casper was attacked. Broken vases in the floor, hot water from the tub, flowers covering the floor, blood everywhere, 2 dead bodies.

What I didn't like. There wasn't anything that bothered me about me about this book and I will definitely recommend this book to others.

Where did the story take place? Charleston, North Carolina. It couldn't have taken place anywhere else because the settings were important to the story.

Covert Dreams

Covert Dreams - Mike Meyer What motivates a given character’s actions? Stan is like a pit bull trying to find out who took his wife and why. He does everything necessary to get answers.

If you were in a problem situation like one in the book, how would you have acted? If I went to a foreign country and my husband disappeared, I would have searched everywhere for them. I would have got my proof from the US. No different from Stan, I guess.

Who was your favorite character? Stan was my favorite. He was so devoted to his wife. He risks everything to try and find her.

The Book of Paul

The Book of Paul - Richard Long Formatting / Appearance - There were no issues at all. Most of us at the book club especially liked the symbol of the nail that was used for each chapter.

What other books has this author written? We discussed this in a few meetings. This is the author’s first book and we were very surprised to learn that. If there is ever a sequel or another book by him, we'll definitely want to read.

How you define yourself is a central theme in this story. I cannot picture myself as any of the characters as they each seemed to be very radical in how they approached situations.

Dissolution of Peace

Dissolution of Peace - Richard Flores IV If you were in a problem situation like one in the book, how would you have acted? I would have protected Christina to the best of my ability.

List the five major events in the story in the correct order. Roger was a traitor. Janis arrived on the ship. People tried over and over and over to kill the captain. Phobos was destroyed. Australia sank.

What do you think is the climax of the book and why. When they finally blew up Roger's ship.

The Morph (Gate-Shifters, #1)

The Morph - J.C. Andrijeski If you were to talk with the author, what would you want to know? I would like to know how she actually came up with the ideas for this book. While some seemed straightforward and simple, the whole new world she created was filled with twists and turns and I would like to know what her inspiration was.

If you could rewrite the ending, would you? I don't think so. While many of us at book club weren't ecstatic about the ending, it was some kind of resolution to the story and if it is going to continue to a second book, the ending is perfect as it is.

Consider the ending. Did you expect it or were you surprised? A little bit. I wasn't certain until the end about who Dakota will leave it. Not going to give all the information away.

Jack Templar Monster Hunter: The Templar Chronicles: Book One

Jack Templar, Monster Hunter - Jeff Gunhus What do you think will be your lasting impression of this book? The fight scenes. These were the most well-written parts of the book. And I definitely want to read the other books in the series so I have all the answers about Jack's past.

What did you think of the cover? It was perfect and was a close depiction to Jack's character.

Would you recommend this book? Any middle grade student or adult who loves adventure, will definitely enjoy this book. We've already recommended it to other book club members who were not involved in discussing this book. It will make a perfect family read.

Redwood Violet

Redwood Violet - Robin Mahle What I didn't like. Agreeing with all book club members, we hated the ending.

Compare two of the characters in this book. Spencer – thinks only of himself, all words say are just show, (hmmm a perfect lawyer)

Marshall – wants to help people, concerned with getting justice for victims.

Consider the main character: what does he or she believe in? Katie is willing to battle anyone just to find out the truth.

She drown. Dave - Girls volleyball coach. Hooked on meth and alcohol. Total denial about his addiction. Angie - Meth - Very sick, delusional. She tried to commit suicide, when she was in rehab.

Find one word that describes a character in your book very well. Give five reasons for your choice of words.

Diseased - Drank and least a half gallon a day. Took pills. Drank Listerine, when he didn't have liquor. Wanted to die. Didn't care how he lived or who he hurt.

If you could rewrite the ending, would you?

No, I wouldn't rewrite it. It was perfect as it was.

The Shadow of the Unicorn: The Legacy (The Shadow of the Unicorn Series)

The Shadow of the Unicorn: The Legacy (The Shadow of the Unicorn, #1) - Suzanne de Montigny What did you think of the style of the writer? An easy fun read for anyone in the middle grade. If someone likes unicorns then they would love this book

Name your favorite thing overall about the book. Your least favorite? My favourite is when the unicorns escape Ishmael. My least favourite is when Darius goes off on his own.

What major emotion did the story evoke in you as a reader? Sadness over the greed we as humans have. If something is unique we humans believe we should own it.

Lionslayer's Woman

Lionslayer's Woman - Nhys Glover Did the plot pull you in or did you feel you had to force yourself to read the book? The plot pulled me in but the characters didn't. This is the second book I am reading by this author and I notice she has a strong liking for using many different characters. I think this is what makes the story confusing after awhile.

How realistic was the characterization? This was a pure fantasy book. Although the emotions and passions were real.

How does the setting figure into the book? The setting makes the story rich and I loved being an armchair traveller.

The Italian Connection 1 (Dojo Boys, #4)

The Italian Connection 1 (Dojo Boys, #4) - Alex A. Akira Do any characters grow or change during the course of the novel? Gabriella, she sounds fun and amazing to be around.

What did you think of the style of the writer? The style of the writer is amazing. He has a nice flow and a unique way in portraying characters.

Blown Circuit: Explosive Spy Action for Mystery Thriller Fans (#2)

Blown Circuit - Lars Guignard
In your own words, how did the setting of the story made it more interesting. All settings were dark and mysterious so it sometimes felt like there was more than one thing happening. Readers were discovering more about the current situation and more about the current setting or location.

Which characters do you particularly admire or dislike? The core of the story is Michael, the others were needed for the story.

What I liked. Everything about this book. My book club members and I really enjoyed this book.

Tangled Secrets

Tangled Secrets - Carol Preston Did you like the way the book ended? Yes, so glad it ended on a happy note. I was wondering how the author would end the book but it finished out perfect.

Was the story credible? I believe the author was writing about history. Therefore, yes everything seemed real. Would really like to know how many research hours she put in to write this.

What part would you change in the story, and why? I would personally remove Bridget. I can understand William’s role. Bridget just needed to be deleted from the book or maybe just life.

Describe 2 different settings or locations. Bill and Beth talking about the possibility of him marrying Bridget. I cannot see how Bill did not realize how Bridget was such a bad person. He states that Nipper is not comfortable with Bridget. Seems like if he was really concerned about his kids he would not marry someone that made them feel uncomfortable.

Bill stating to his grandson George that Grandmother always had a biscuit for him. I believe Bridget is horrified to know she is a step-grandmother.

Semmant

Semmant - Vadim Babenko Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting.

All the different places Bogdan travelled to. This really kept the book going for me and I wanted to know more about the places he had been to. Talk about armchair travel.

Did this book remind you of anything that has happened to you? What? Why?

I've been around people that are never satisfied. It's very unpleasant and depressing so I can only imagine what it would have been like to be around Bogdan.

Did this book give you any new ideas about yourself? Why?

No new ideas about myself but after reading this book I am very sure I do not want to be like Bogdan. He was so smart and yet so uncaring.
